SSAFA Fundraising Lecture - Korea - War without End
You are warmly invited to join the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) - the Armed Forces charity - Northern Ireland Branch, for a special fundraising evening in support of our work with serving personnel, veterans and their families across Northern Ireland. SSAFA is honoured to present, General The Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL as its guest speaker, delivering our ‘Annual Fundraising Lecture’, entitled ‘Korea - War without End’.
2025 commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the Korean War. This year’s lecture continues with the same theme, marking the 75th anniversary of the battles of Happy Valley and the Imjin River, which involved distinguished regiments from Northern Ireland — the Royal Ulster Rifles and the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars. Korea was a conflict often described as the forgotten war, yet one whose consequences still shape the modern world. Though an armistice was signed in 1953, no peace treaty followed — leaving the Korean Peninsula technically still at war. The legacy of that uneasy truce reverberates to this day, influencing global security, the balance of power in Asia, and the world’s ever-fragile geopolitical order.
This lecture, will explore that enduring legacy through the insights and reflections of one of Britain’s most respected soldiers, General The Lord Dannatt. It promises to be a fascinating evening for veterans, military historians, serving personnel and all those with an interest in the lasting lessons of conflict and peace.
Tickets go on sale Thursday 2nd January 2026 at 09:30am
The ticket price of £25 includes a reception, refreshments, musical entertainment from an ensemble of the Royal Irish Regiment Band and a Q&A session with General Dannatt, who is happy to field more contemporary questions on Northern Ireland, the UK’s Strategic Defence Review, Ukraine, or reflections from his other published books. Signed copies of General Dannatt’s latest book Korea - War without End will also be available at the discounted price of £20.
Optional Donation (Gift Aid)
In addition to the £25 ticket price, we invite guests - if they wish - to make a separate voluntary donation in support of SSAFA’s life-changing welfare work across Northern Ireland. This donation is entirely optional, not a condition of entry and attracts Gift Aid, if you are a UK taxpayer, enabling us to increase your gift by 25% at no extra cost.
Proceeds from ticket, book sales and Gift Aid will go to SSAFA- Charity No 210760, and directly to our local, self funded Northern Ireland Branch which provides for the practical, emotional and financial welfare of so many in the wider Armed Forces community across the province. Thank you for your ongoing support.
