About the exhibition:

‘Degrees of Separation’

Ceramics, Drawings and Print

Human, animal and architectural elements are combined to create sculptures and drawings that are illustrative and narrative, literal and metaphorical.

Eleanor Wheeler, a self employed artist for over 20 years, has a first class honours degree, master’s and doctorate all in ceramics. Although working primarily with clay, Eleanor often incorporates other materials, including bronze, steel and cast stone, in her creations. She specialises in creating large scale sculptures for public spaces, buildings and gardens. Alongside her commissioned work, Eleanor regularly exhibits, takes part in residencies - including at The Sanskriti Foundation in Delhi, and the Ulster Museum, and has represented Northern Ireland at the Chanchung, China International Sculpture Symposium.

Eleanor’s extensive travels have included cycling through the Himalayas and journeying along the Danube, from its source in the Black Forest to the Black Sea. These journeys invariably inspire new work and deepen her lifelong fascination with animals and birds.  In particular she is drawn to cultural symbolism which transcends time and place.
