An exploration of light, colour and texture on the Irish landscape.
Andrew Gault’s paintings, in the chiaroscuro method, use very strong contrasts between light and dark, to create a dramatic composition with a highlighted area in the canvas set against a shadowed, almost black, background. His work explores the relationship between people and their landscapes to rediscover connections with a sense of place, past and the narrative of their lives.
Alison Gault explores the rich colours, textures and transparent values of paint to layer and capture the emotion and allure of the landscape. Her paintings are not literal translations, rather they engage with the mood and energy in the earth and skyscapes, to inspire and find beauty in mark-making.
Both Andrew and Alison have work in collections in Ireland, England, Scotland, America and Australia. Each is the recipient of awards, including ING Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, London, 2023 for Alison, and 2024 for Andrew; the Royal Society Ulster Architects ‘Architects as Artists’ President’s Choice Award 2016, and
Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition 2024 (Sunflower Bar award), for Andrew.
