ISLAND Arts Centre celebrates its hugely successful Sam McBratney ‘Guess How Much I Love You’ Children’s Arts Festival!

August 1, 2024

Our young people have just spent a fantastic, fun-filled first week at ISLAND Arts Centre’s Children’s Arts Festival, which began on 29 July and runs for three weeks until 16 August.

Inspired by one of the world’s best-selling picture books ‘Guess How Much I Love You,’ written by local author, the late Sam McBratney, the sold-out festival inspired by illustrations by Anita Jeram, has kicked off with a huge variety of arts, including: creating a diorama, junk art hares, hare-themed pottery, circus skills, drama and craft all under the tuition of professional artists.

Supporting the festival, Alderman Hazel Legge, Vice-Chair of communities and wellbeing, said:

“It has been wonderful to see our young people so enthusiastic about a range of arts at ISLAND Arts Centre during its ‘Guess How Much I Love You’ themed Children’s Arts Festival. I enjoyed seeing mice being sculpted out of junk art, an imagination inspired drama session and circus balancing skills! Something for everyone, the children attending the next two weeks have a lot to look forward to!’

The council was delighted to have the support of Sam McBratney’s family and the book’s publisher Walker Books, London that helped make this event an exceptional educational and entertaining opportunity for all involved.
