Silver Generations Exhibition

April 13, 2026

ISLAND Arts Centre marks its 25th anniversary with a very special exhibition – Silver Generations – showcasing work from three generations of a unique, award-winning local family.

Opening on Saturday 18 April, this exhibition of silversmithing, jewellery and prints by Michael McCrory, Deirdre McCrory, Cara Murphy and Caitlin Murphy highlights how each artist has forged their own creative path, and celebrates the family’s more than 170 years of combined experience and expertise.

Councillor Tim Mitchell, Chair of Communities and Wellbeing Committee said: “The council is incredibly proud to host this prestigious collection of work created by a truly special local family. It is heartening to know that the youngest artist member of the family, Caitlin, recipient of our Young Artist of the Year award 2024, has grown her practice with the council’s support’’.

Each of the artists has won a wide range of awards during their careers and their work is featured in many collections, national and international, public and private, including the UK Parliamentary Collection, Victoria and Albert Museum and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Reflecting on her family’s artistic achievements, artist Cara Murphy said:

‘This exhibition is a snapshot of our individuality, our connections with each other and a selection of key works that have shaped us on our craft journey.”

The preview for ‘Silver Generations’ takes place at ISLAND Arts Centre on Saturday 18 April, 2-4pm with the exhibition being opened by Katherine McDonald, Director of Craft NI.

‘Silver Generations’ continues until Saturday 23 May in Galleries 1 & 2, ISLAND Arts Centre, Lisburn.  Admission to the exhibition is free and booking is not required.
