Young Artists’ Triumph Swings into ISLAND Arts Centre: Tourism NI Art Competition Winners Now on Display!

July 31, 2025

ISLAND Arts Centre is delighted to play host to the incredible winning entries from Tourism Northern Ireland’s art competition. These tee-rific pieces first gave a “giant welcome” to visitors from all over the world who came for The 153rd Open, Royal Portrush golf tournament. Now, you can see them right here, and they perfectly complement our own ‘Bright Ideas’ Children’s Arts Festival!

The competition attracted almost 200 fantastic drawings and paintings, as young artists truly captured Northern Ireland’s unique charm and spirit. Lucia, 15, from Magherafelt, clinched first prize with her amazing picture of Rory McIlroy. Her winning design sits proudly alongside outstanding works from fellow finalists Bodhi (6), Jessica (7), Elise (8), Alexander (11), and Lydia (15).

We’re especially proud that Alexander, one of our own local talents from right here in the council area, has a vibrant piece in this inspiring display. Councillor Tim Mitchell, Chair of Communities and Wellbeing Committee for Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, was thrilled to meet Alexander and view his brilliant artwork, which even appeared on big billboards in Belfast and Portrush!

“It’s really inspiring to see how creative our young people are,” Councillor Tim Mitchell said. “We’re so proud to host this exhibition at ISLAND Arts Centre, especially during our ‘Bright Ideas’ Children’s Arts Festival. It lets us show off the amazing art talent right here in our community, including our very own Alexander’s fantastic contribution. This display isn’t just about how brilliant these young artists are; it also reinforces our council’s commitment to supporting arts and culture for all ages.”
